Disclaimers… I write about Politics and Religion and as such I find it prudent to give a little bit of a disclaimer on that. I think its tremendously important that one not be read in a way that leads the reader to discount any efforts on the other just because the reader doesn’t share the same views. Some would say I should just avoid one or the other, but I also believe that one of the problems we deal with as a society is the fact that we assume that someone who’s a staunch opponent to either or religious or political views will be offended, and so we remain silent. I believe that what we need is more people willing to express their views openly, and more people who are able to disagree without being offended and discounting all other points of views/philosophies as well as the one they disagree with.
Thomas Jefferson once said…
“It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among [my] opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.”
Insert “Religious” in place of “political” as well. If you are reading this and disagree with me strongly one on topic or the other, feel free to disagree and comment (nicely). I have good brothers and sisters in Christ whom I love, who disagree on almost every political opinion, and I have friends who agree with me politically but think very poorly of Christianity and the church. We are bigger than our differences, yet we should still be able to express them openly, which I do here.
